Santorum Push Will Cost GOP the General Election

Rick Santorum was for all intensive purposes a dead horse in this race. In the back of the pack with Huntsman, Santorum was expected to pull out of the race by most experts. What the experts didn’t count on was the fact that Santorum would transform himself into an ultra conservative religious freak in order to regain momentum in the primary race.

Flashback to August 24th, 2011: A new survey conducted late last week by Gallup finds Perry to be the choice of 29 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents nationwide, followed by Mitt Romney with 17 percent, Ron Paul at 13 percent and Michelle Bachman scoring 10 percent. All other announced candidates received 4 percent or less, and 17 percent of Republicans nationwide expressed no preference.

Santorum is all but out of it. He is in the “unmentioned” under 4% group of candidates. This is when he makes the fatal decision that will cost the GOP the Presidential election of 2012. Santorum decides to court the ultra conservative and often bigoted, sexist, and segregationist group know as the “Christian Right”.

Why? Simple. Santorum knew that without money or a boatload of air time on radio and television, he would not be able to continue his campaign. Unfortunately for the Christian Right, as in most of their hero politicians, Rick Santorum is just another man looking to use their money to increase his own power. This has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with the greed and ambition of a single human with bad intentions.

With this flip to the ultra conservative Santorum we see today, he gained large donations, and most importantly, his name was mentioned every minute of every day by the hundreds of televangelists, church hour programs, and right wing talk show hosts that buy time on every station, both radio and television. They are there daily to milk money from the elderly and ignorant that buy into their pleas for cash. Now they have a poster child in Rick Santorum. All of their donations are going up because they can shout that the end is coming and Rick Santorum is the one person who god would want you to support….send money to us and help us support him….tax free.

Currently in the News: Santorum takes the redneck state of Kansas, and will make his way through the rest of the Bible belt states, collecting an annoying, but insufficient number of delegates to win the nomination or even to cause a contested convention.

What Rick Santorum has accomplished is to hammer the last coffin nail in the Republican Party for the 2012 elections. As if George Bush didn’t damage the Party enough….Rick pushed hard enough to alienate the entire female population (except a few extreme right wing women) away from the GOP. Santorum has pushed the decision of wwomen’s health care, sexuality, and reproductive choice out of the hands of women and into the control of men. He has in essence asked women to step back into the “pre-wwomen’s liberation movment” closet. No matter how supportive a woman is of the Republican party, asking her to give up the hard won freedoms that women gained in the 1970’s is a sure way to further damage the GOP.

The issue came to a head when the GOP Congress made an all male, all religious, all bigoted panel speak out on contraception in America. When the Democrats tried to counter with a Georgetown University law student, who is a female, the GOP responded by blocking her from speaking. When the Democratic Congress decided to hold a special session just to hear her comments, the response from the GOP was spoken through Rush Limbaugh. “She’s a slut”

Women have woken up to the fact that the Santorum is seeking to reverse previous freedoms granted to American women. The New York Times is reporting that : Centrist Women Tell of Disenchantment With G.O.P., but the truth is much more damning. The GOP has lost its female base completely with the push of Rick Santorum. He has put too many of the “touchy” subjects on which the the GOP is hypocritical on the table, and all the candidates are stumbling for answers. Instead of a debate where the Democrats are pushing the issues, Rick Santorum is exposing all the Republican’s embarrassing beliefs from within the party.

So congratulations Rick on the couple hundred delegates you are gaining from the states in America with the most religious freaks. Too bad your surge will cost the GOP any chance at beating Obama this fall. Romney will take the convention, but Santorum will have already done the damage. Romney’s non-responses to Santorum’s questions today, like his statement in response to Limbaugh’s slut comment where Romney said he would have “chosen different words”, will cost Romney the election.
